For all of you who read my previous post and bet that Mr. Grumpy Pumpkin would be attacked by bugs, congratulations! I had to toss him in the trash tonight because approximately three million sand gnats decided to inhabit his fleshy orange core until it turned black and rather unsightly. The good news is that since I no longer have a pumpkin on my porch I can sit peacefully in the dark, back corner of my hermitage and avoid awkward encounters with trick-or-treaters.
I forgot to buy candy. Oops.

I know how to carve a mean pumpkin.
His were much more jolly, but the Internet died before I was able to take a screen shot for you all.
I’m proud to report that all of my digits are still intact, which is quite a miracle considering my “good knives” are a cheapo hand-me-down set from Cora’s pre-matrimonial life. I really hope that having a pumpkin on my porch isn’t going to attract a weird swarm of Southern insects.
Should I start taking bets on how this tale will end?
Tonight I baked pumpkin bars. You know, the really delicious kind with the cream cheese frosting? Yeah, those.
This afternoon it donned on me that I haven’t reached my pumpkin-flavored quota for the season and there are only TWO DAYS until Thanksgiving. You see, on Friday I will inevitably switch from the wholesome spiciness of pumpkin lattes and muffins to sweet chocolate-peppermint Christmas concoctions.
I’m very excited to share my pan o’ pumpkin at the office tomorrow. I’m surely not the only person who is needs a little fall flavor and an extra dose of sugar to get through the agonizing day before vacation.
